Guidline for Tropical Cyclone Warnings

Tropial Cyclone do happen time to time in Hong Kong. There are typically four levels of warnings, No 1, 3, 8, and 10. With No. 10 be the most serious. As a general rule of thumb, No 1 and 3 cyclone, just act as normal. Stay indoor when No 8 and 10 alerts are issued. And of course check with your company for more details.

Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal Nos. 1 or 3

When Signal Nos. 1 or 3 is hoisted on a working day, staff members should report for work or remain at work.


Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 8 or above

NOT YET at work

When the Signal No.8 or above is hoisted, or an announcement is made by the Hong Kong Observatory that it is likely to be hoisted within the next 2 hours, at any time between 6:30 a.m. and 12:00 noon, staff members are not expected to report for work for the morning.

When the Signal No. 8 or above is hoisted, or an announcement is made by the Hong Kong Observatory that it is likely to be hoisted within the next 2 hours, at any time between 12:00 noon and 4:30 p.m., all staff members are not expected to report for work in the afternoon.

Staff members whose shift of duty commences at 12:00 noon are not expected to report for work, if at any time between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon, the Signal No.8 or above is hoisted, or an announcement is made by the Hong Kong Observatory that it is likely to be hoisted within the next 2 hours.

ALREADY at work

Try to be home as soon as possible.
