Guidelines for Rainstorm Alerts

Here are some basic general guidelines when rainstorm alerts are raised in Hong Kong. There are Green and Amber alerts, Red warnings, and Rainstorm Black! These guidelines will tell you what to do, and weather to work or not. And of course, refer to your company for more detailed information.

Rainstorm Green and Amber Alerts

When a Rainstorm Green or Amber Alert is issued on a working day, staff members should report for work or remain at work.

Rainstorm Red Warning

As a general rule, when the Rainstorm Red Warning is issued before working hours, and provided that transport services are available, staff members should report for duty as usual.

Rainstorm Black Warning

NOT YET at work

If the Rainstorm Black Warning is issued at any time between 6:30 a.m. and 12:00 noon, staff members should stay home and need not report for work for the morning.

If the warning is cancelled before 12:00 noon on a working day, staff members should attempt to report for work in the afternoon, depending on the general weather conditions and the availability of public transport.

If the warning is cancelled after 12:00 noon, staff members may remain at home, except for those with specific duties.

ALREADY at work

As advised by Government, people should take shelter in a safe place during a Rainstorm Black Warning.

If the Rainstorm Black Warning stays in effect when business closes, staff members should be allowed to stay in the office.
