To me, I feel lucky to live in Hong Kong, this is hardly a world class city with a best mixture of west and east. You get good food, nice beach, and so much fun. You never get bored. Tell me on which city, you can see so many sale girls doing promotion on the street? I doubt New York has that.
Still the one dress in game character is the best!
Is the economy not doing good? Well, it could be, so the shops are thinking of new ideas to attract more customers, by doing so, they create more jobs, especially to those young girls just graduate from the school. Lets take a look at these street photos at Hong Kong Mong Kok, never see so many sale girls dress so all together.
The one in the game suit is so cute. Some more for tmorrow.
Remember the Hong Kong bus uncle some years back? "You got pressure I also have pressure". Now we have Hong Kong airport aunty. This Chinese lady missed her flight at HK International Airport, and lets see what she did. Come on, just miss a flight, does she need to act like this? No matter how hard she cries, the plane already flies away.
Not sure where to celebrate your Valentine, but how about a traditional Hong Kong restaurant 茶餐室?Don't think that they are just traditional, like this one at Temple Street, an old restaurant, but they even introduce a new drink called " 甜蜜鸳鸯冰" (the poster on the wall) for the Valentine celebration.
In fact, many movies have been shot in this restaurant. Their 排骨蒸飯 and 红豆冰 are really nice.
I like to walk along the Temple Street 庙街 near Yau Ma Tei 油麻地 portion. This part is far away from the Jordan 佐敦 portion, where they are targeting foreign tourists. Along the Temple Street that is in between Yau Ma Tei and Jordan (all th way to Yao Ma Tei), you can find a lot of interesting stuffs, which are cheap and good quality.
However, in some cases, you can get the same toy at several stalls, make sure you check out all the stalls before you buy, as the price can differ a lot. For example, a toy car, the lowest can be just HKD 10, while the other sell at HKD 20 and one even at HKD 30. On the other hand, some toys, you will find that only one stall is selling. One of such is the wooden crave as follows:
He claimed that those are hand-made by him, and he can only make 2 per day. They are not cheap, one of those costs you about HKD 80. But it is nice because he craves the wood according ot the shape, so they are perfectly matched. Next is those colorful bottle opener, can you guess how much is it?
They are double sided, both side are painted colorfully. Each of them only HKD 10! And there are something funny as well, e.g. the chicken below:
Why I say intersting, look at the video below and you will know why: Remember, get yourself some toys when you are here, many of them are cheap. But be sure you bargain the price and do more survey before you buy.
This is the most creative name I have ever seen for a restaurant. It has only a very simple design. Three banners, one on top in the middle, one on left and one on right. But the yellow background with red words can easily catch your attention. It is called "伤心酸辣粉",and on the right it says "辣到流眼泪" and on the left "酸到流口水". Nice isn't it?
It makes me feel like to try how spicy or sour it is. Anyway, it is at Sham Shui Po 深水埗 near the computer centers there.
This is the most crowded event I ever seen. The police started to block the road since evening around 5 or 6pm. And the people start to flood the street since 6 or 7 pm. What you can see just black heads everywhere. I manage to squeeze all the way in to the middle of Nanthan road right in the middle (police sealed the way to water front, as I was late, already 11pm). And here is what I saw at the time close to 12am:
Above is facing south, i.e. to the direction of HK island. Below is facing north.
You wonder why people at the first photo look at left, and the people on the second photo look at right? Because there is an electronic count down board on the east. And finally.....
Too small? Here got a full video by a guy who queue for good position possible since 6pm.... Can't wait for the 23 minutes fireworks during Chinese New Year!
This pub, named Daddy Pub "爸 Bar" does it means that only fathers can get in? I am not too sure. But what I know there are many pub / club / bar in Hong Kong, especially at Tsim Sha Tsui area. Beer is pretty cheap, maybe HKD 35 for one, even cheaper during happy hour. Cocktail, typical price is HKD 80. You can get a cheaper one at Moddy street, but smaller glass. As those place are intended for younster. For that I have reported previous at Halloween Party.
Christmas eve party and the crowded scene will be updating soon.
Hong Kong, appears to be one of the country with most public individual invest in the Lehman Brother mini bonds. But I think the parliament has done quite a good job. They have organized these events and seminars, let the investors to meet with the parliament member face to face. You can ask question, complaints, and at least, there is someone to gather everyone together, and you are not alone. Someone will be there to help you.
Different countries got their legal system, have pros and cons. But at least, it is good to have someone out there to help you when you are in trouble.
How will you feel if you see the fire engine in front of your house when you return from work? That is terrible. In this cold autumn, Hong Kong is so dry that you can hear the fire alarm almost daily. Always many buildings in building, fire engines busy running across the street. And some moutain or hill are having wild fire. Lets take a look at one video...
Hong Kong has a very nice landscape, a lot of moutain and sea, but too bad, no much sun set:
So always careful for fire, it is dry during winter time.
Though this Christmas would be a cold one for Hong Kong, this pretty Hong Kong is still having her Christmas shopping in her Burberry short skirt. This year, most shopping centers spend quite some money in Christmas decoration. They set up big and tall Christmas tree, very bright lighting, and of course, some characters as shown here as well. Tourists and local all busying take photos.
Feel like coming for the Christmas sales, yes, quite a lot of bargains and big sales.
At Harbour City, you won't feel the economic downturn, because the Christmas lighting is so grand, you feel like in the fairy tales, a happy. beautiful and peaceful Christmas. You will feel like the happiest person in this world. Gifts are everywhere, time freeze so that you will be staying in this heaven forever, and remains happy forever. So are you ready to join this Happy Christmas at the biggest shopping center at Tsim Sha Tsui (TST)?
This is Hong Kong, the shopping paradise. But the weather is cold and dry at Hong Kong right now (1 Dec 2008), so be prepared if you are visiting.
Sham Shui Po 深水埗 has the name of the electronic city 电子城 for Hong Kong. There are a few buildings focused on the electronic gadgets. I have talked about it at Computer centers of Hong Kong and also a shopping center at Dragon City 西九龙中心. However, what you may not know about is that this is the place where you can see how a typical "not so rich" people in Hong Kong make a living. There are a very big night market, span across a few streets, unlike their counter part at Temple Street 庙街 or Woman Street 女人街, here is not for toursist. The market here is for the local people, they are selling everything, anything that you need it in your daily life, you can find it here. From clothes, to shoes, to light bulb, even magnet, they got dedicated stall for it.
Food is cheap here. However, as I heard, got some old poor people here, they will even come and eat the food that you left behind.
Take a look at this paragraph which I believe is written by a primary school student. Wonder if this is the standard of typical Hong Kong kids, really serious. I am sure my life will be shorten by 10 years if I need to read such articles.
So lets this student tell you about his/her shopping trip to Sogo depeartment store. In between, got japanese as well, as there is always a life lady in the Sogo department store.
Continue.. click on the image to enlarge What an exciting shopping trip.
Can you imagine yourself in the same train as this group of people? Not jsut because of their hair, their dressing, but also their behaviour. They are enjoying themselves, and taking photos, and you, which just sit besides them, you will be part of their photos too.
Look at this girl, busy to sms to her friend: "some strange ppl is besides me now" The girl in yellow: "I woulder rather stand than sit" Yellow girl: ... ... ... ... These young craps are dressing themselves for the Halloween party and on the way in Hong Kong MTR.
No kidding, take a look at this photo, I can't see the Hong Kong island at all on yesterday morning. This is the first time. The weather is getting cold in Hong Kong, and the economic is slowing down, but the pollution is still running at high speed. A few years back, the Hong Kong sky is so blue, and the habour view is nice. Look like now people will move to inland and stay far away from the Hong Kong island or habour side.
This photo was being took on 18 Nov 2008 11am. To make a comparsions, compare the above with the one below. Below is a clear day I took on 3 Sept, which I already posted on Pollution at Hong Kong:
I never see a bowling like this, so colorful, how to play. You will be easily distracted. However, this is indeed a new decoration. Look at the colorful lights at the ceiling, isn't it a good idea to do your house in this way? At least in Hong Kong, you can see many things which are new and very different, all are uniques.
This is a free market, you got to fight and stand out from others, and this makes Hong Kong exciting.
